Appealing Garden Design Made Simple.

January 26th, 2012 | Posted by admin in Gardening

design simply refers to the way you plan and lay out the plants in your garden. It can vary from something simple like a few rows of vegetables to an elaborate plan created by a professional landscaper. Designing a garden can be done in a variety of ways. What kind of design you have will depend on the kind of plants you are growing, the room you have and your personal preferences.

Placing a focal point or having a noticeable center is something to consider regardless of the type of garden you have. Although focal points are normally used in larger and medium sized gardens, small gardens can have also have focal points. Something elaborate like a trellis or fountain can be used, or something simple like a small outdoor sculpture. When they are looking at your garden, this will be one of the first things people will notice. Another possibility is to have a bench where people can relax and admire the garden. Increasing your gardens appeal with an attractive central point is something to think about.

You can create a dramatic effect on the appearance and atmosphere of your garden with a pond. It isn’t difficult to build or put in a pond on your property and you can pick one that’s just the right shape or size. As long as it properly contains the water, you can use any watertight material to make a pond. If you wanted to you could add fish to your pond and also put in some water plants. Putting some fish such as koi, goldfish or other colorful fish species in your pond will add to the atmosphere. You may also want to introduce some frogs or toads, which will help keep the insect population under control. Your garden will be more inviting to you and anyone who visits with a garden pond.

It’s true that some people want their gardens to seem wild and natural but it is also true that some people prefer a far more structured look to things. Formal garden designs are for people who prefer gardens with clean lines and neat rows of plants and flowers. It’s possible to find inspiration by looking at different formal garden models like the English and French models that are commonly used.

Hedges are useful when creating a formal garden, as they create a natural barrier that encloses your plants. Some formal gardens make use of topiary, where hedges or bushes are sculpted into recognizable forms such as animals. Formal gardens require you to put more work into them because their presentation is so ordered and regulated.

Gardening design offers a great opportunity to be creative and to turn a regular garden into a work of art. Whether you have a small container garden on your patio or a large outdoor garden, the more thought you put into the design, the more pleasing the result will be. You can get inspiration by studying other garden designs but don’t forget to include a few of your own personal touches as well.
